Tips for Keeping Teeth Free of Stains

Tips for Keeping Teeth Free of Stains

Our teeth are supposed to be bright and white. But sometimes our smile accumulates stains, making it look dark or yellowed. It is important to avoid this issue in order to keep the teeth looking healthy. There are several ways you can make sure this happens.

Diet:

The foods and drinks you consume come in direct contact with your teeth. Certain items of your diet can be seriously darkening or yellowing your dental enamel. These typically include anything highly pigmented, such as foods like berries, chocolate, pasta sauce, and hard candies, and drinks like soda, tea, and energy drinks. You can keep your teeth bright by minimizing consumption of these foods, and instead enjoying cheese, celery, apples, and cauliflower.

Dental hygiene at home:

Brushing your teeth everyday plays a big part in keeping them free of stains. This daily task eliminates food debris, which if left can affect the look of the enamel. It also eliminates plaque, which is sticky enough for food to cling onto. Flossing also works in the same way. You can finish the process by rinsing with mouthwash afterwards. You can even use a whitening mouthwash to further prevent stains.

Visit our dentist regularly:

A professional dentist uses their skill and tools to get rid of plaque and tartar that you can’t remove on your own. This is an important part of keeping the smile healthy, clean, and stain-free. Everyone should see their dentist for a cleaning twice a year, or as often as recommended. Contact us to learn more about our teeth whitening services.
